Croke Park Hours

Croke Park Hours for 2018/2019 School Year

At Ag Eisteacht, located in Cork, we are offering Croke Park hours for the 2018/2019 school year. We will be offering 6 different 2 hour sessions which aim to help in fostering well-being in the school community.

These 2 hour sessions are an introduction to our ABLE4Teachers Summer Courses and will be run in various locations across the country and facilitated by 1 of our licensed trainers. The session will cost €200 and will be held on the school grounds, where possible. The 6 sessions include:

 

Session 1 – Building rapport and listening actively to parents and colleagues

Aim: Explore value of the ABLE (brief intervention) Model, in building relationships in the school community

Learning Outcomes

 At the end of this session participants will have

  • An understanding of the role of relationships and their contribution to well being
  • An insight into the value and impact of active listening
  • Knowledge and insight into times of change
  • Used Beck’s Circle to make connections between thoughts, feelings and behaviors

 

Session 2 – Managing conflict in the school community

Aim: To equip teachers with knowledge and skills for managing conflict in the school community.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this session teachers will have:

  • Developed skills to manage conflict more effectively
  • Gained insight into Transactional Analysis Theory

 

Session 3 – Conflict at home – how does it affects children in school?

Aim: To provide knowledge and insights on the effects of inter-parental/guardian conflict on children within the school community.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this session teachers will:

  • Understand the spectrum of conflict from constructive to destructive
  • Key messages from evidence of the impact of inter-parental conflict on children
  • Identify moderating factors and the role of modelling behavior

 

Session 4 – Building resilience – putting on ones’ own oxygen mask first! 

Aim: Identify and build one’s own ability to self-care and build resilience

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this session teachers will:

  • Understand the value of good quality relationships to well being
  • Have insight into the value and impact of active listening using ABLE
  • Additional resources for self-care and building resilience

 

Session 5 – ‘Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope’

Aim: Highlight the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and promote a school wide approach to ACEs

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the session teachers will:

  • Understand the impacts of ACEs on child development
  • Have an insight into the types and prevalence of ACEs
  • Adopt a more compassionate and reflective approach of ‘What happened to you’ rather than ‘What is wrong with you’

Session 6 – The Brain Architecture Game

Aim: Build understanding of the powerful  role of experiences on early brain development

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand that the architecture of the brain is built starting in the earliest years of life, and that experiences shape the structure for better or worse
  • The hands on experience helps people to see and feel the implications of the science of early brain development
  • The shared concepts and vocabulary help people focus on shared, civic responsibility for creating the environments in which young children develop
